What was TFP/TFCD again?
TFP (Trade/Time FOR PICTURES) means that model and photographer work together free of charge to create professional image material. The model will receive all processed and full sized image files on a CD including personal print rights release form, also free of charge.
What can the model do with the image files?
The model can have prints made, hang them on the wall, create a photo book, use them on a personal website, advertise her person or her business.
What can the model NOT do with the image files?
The model can not sell image files, prints or any products made of the picture material, enter any picture contests or transfer any royalty, print or copy rights to anybody. So basically it is for personal use only. All commercial rights remain with the photographer.
What can the photographer do with the images including commercial rights?
The photographer has the right to sell use licenses of the images. I will offer selected images to renowned stock image agencies. If they accept the images despite their very high restrictions, they will host them on their websites and make them available for purchase. If a customer like an advertising agency, a magazine or newspaper decides to buy a use license of the image, then the stock image agency makes money and I will receive a percentage of it.
Why doesn't the model get paid?
A TFP/TFCD session is supposed to benefit both, the model and the photographer. While the model gets image material worth hundreds of Dollars at no cost, the photographer has to bring in heavy investments for camera gear and lighting equipment, professional skills, preparation of the shoot, organizing shooting locations, many many hours of retouching and post processing and last but not least bearing the risk that none of the images might ever sell. There's a chance the photographer might not make any money out of the shoot, ever.
So how does it all go?
First you need to get in touch with me and tell me about yourself. Once I know you a little better I can form a shoot around your personality.
Then you need to sign a model release for commercial rights. That's the only chance I can ever make any money out of this kind of work. The shoot will usually take 30 minutes to 2 hours. After the shoot I'll start retouching and post processing of the best images which might take up to 10 days. When I'm done, the model will receive a CD containing the processed image files and a personal print rights release form. This form will allow the model to have prints made at any photo lab of choice.
Why does the model have to sign a model release?
Because no stock image agency will accept any image with recognizable persons on it without a model release. So, no model release - no chance to sell an image.
I'm not exactly the typical supermodel.
No problem. Let me take care of discovering and capturing your interesting sides. Everybody has something that might be interesting for others.
What kind of models/themes are you particularly interested in?
It's not so much about me, but about what advertisers might be interested in. Always in demand are high quality and convincing shoots around
